The Foxes — Finally Finished!
Let me introduce you to Fannie, Fernie, and Fay. Country Cousins.
Finally Finished. (I love me some alliteration!)
I bought this pattern from Wee Wonderfuls during the holidays last year. I couldn’t resist that turned up nose and sparkling eyes. It didn’t take long to make the first fox with cotton I had on hand. I had a little trouble with putting her head together but persevered.
Then I decided to make two more foxes out of a faux fox fur. I purchased “Shannon Minky Luxe Cuddle Red Fox Amber/Taupe” from Fabric.com. I’ve used minky faux fur many times. So thought I was prepared.
Nope.
If I thought the first fox’s head was difficult, that was nothing compared to making the head with faux fox fur.
I seem to have an issue with this faux fox fur. Besides being very messy, it made me itch. Cough. Sneeze. And I couldn’t see my stitches. A good thing about faux fox fur is that it hides the stitches. A bad thing is that it hides the stitches. I have no idea if the head, arms, and legs are really attached well.
But I kept at it and finished one of the furry foxes. Then started on the second. I messed up her head. Really bad. And couldn’t bring myself to get the faux fox fur out and cut another head.
I stuck her away in a place that failed projects live and tried to remove her from my memory. Then I had my accident which necessitated moving all my sewing stuff downstairs so I wouldn’t have to take the stairs. Including all my unfinished projects. And there she was. Waiting. To join the living. And I felt kind of bad for her. So I attempted to fix her misshapen noggin. And made her appendages and stitched her together.
Her face isn’t quite right but we are not going to face shame her. Fannie, you are smart, you are kind, you are important. Then the three fox cousins just kind of hung out in my sewing room because I couldn’t decided how to make their dresses. I really wanted bib overall jumpers with denim pockets. But making pockets that small kind of held me back.
Now here is the really cool part. And why I’m really even posting about the Country Cousins. This is the little pocket that is inside some jean’s big front pockets.
I carefully cut the pocket area out. And stitched some denim together and used the dress pattern that came with Fernie Fox.
Fay is very proud of her new outfit. (Much better than months of nudity)
I almost threw out this little scrap of lace but then came up with this pretty. I used to make these for my daughter when she was in elementary school. But I didn’t pin them to her head like I did for Fay. That would be bad.
Now, I know that my daughter-in-law Lauri is thinking, oh no. These poorly stitched foxes are going to come live with me. Because that is what typically happens when I post about my softies. Off they go to Piper and Adley in North Dakota.
No. Lauri. They are not leaving Homosassa. I don’t think they would survive child’s play. Then I would get phone snaps of their appendages strewn about the play room. They are staying in my sewing room to cheer me up!
And now for their Glamour Shots!
And one final glimpse of those enormous foxie tails.
