“Squirrelly Girl” Pot Holders and a Hot Pad
Okay. This is my last big project for the Squirrelly Girl fabric. Cause I ordered 3 yards and all I have now are scraps!
You might remember that I had a sawtooth star left from the pillow I made. Cause I didn’t measure correctly.
And now it’s a hot pad!
How cute is this? I don’t have any fall colored hot pads or potholders. I had just enough of the squirrelly toile to fussy cut two squirrels vignettes!
A couple of years ago I made a whole series of tutorials of hot pad and pot holders. You can click here for the hot pad tutorial and here for the pot holders.
The size of this hot pad is different than the tutorial but it’s easy peasy to figure out how long the binding should be. Just take all four sides and add about 5 inches. That might be a little too much but better safe than sorry!
A few other notes. I use two layers of insul-brite in my hotpads and potholders. Insul-brite is from the Warm Company and is an insulated batting that is heat resistant. Using two layers makes them very thick. I use a denim needle on my sewing machine. I also zig zag around each item before I add the binding. I think it makes putting on the binding easier and reduces the bulk a little.
I used a pretty varigated thread. I stitched the binding on the front and pulled it to the back and used a zig zag stitch on the front to hold the back down.
Miss Butter was pretty excited about the new kitchen items. Baking is one of her hobbies.
She is quite well-known for her gluten-free sugar-free buttery walnut chocolate chip cookies. Butter and walnuts are two ingredients that Miss Butter always includes in her recipes.
Now my kitchen is finally ready for Autumn. A little late. But I live in Florida and it’s been in the high 80s until this week! I’ve been in the pool every day! But now we are down to the 70s so Fall is officially here! (and the pool is closed!)
