In the Sewing Room
Last week I was CRAZY busy catching up on the Moda Block Heads 3 QAL. But I was doing other stuff, too. Like making hard decisions.
My sewing room.
It’s been upstairs for a few years now. And I’ve loved having all that space and storage areas.
And then the big fall. After six weeks of not going up those steep stairs to sew, most of the stuff came back down last week. Cause I have to accept reality and know that the days of running up and down that staircase just might be over. Yes. I know. Using a walker/crutches is not permanent. But I’ve got at least another 5 weeks of that, and then slowly working up to walking again.
Terry brought all the furniture down last week. He took everything apart and brought one piece at a time. Now you know that we are retired senior citizens. He removed the legs from the sewing table but the top was not budging. An innocent neighbor just happened to stop by. (also a senior citizen) Table top down!
Then, what to do with the furniture that was in the dining room? Upstairs, of course. So Terry called a “young” neighbor to help. Young. As in 60. But they got them up the steps. Even this “young” friend said that the stair case is steep!
So I have almost all my sewing and crafting tools on the first floor. Except for a few things. Like. My CriCut Maker came down. And the papers, markers, and knives. But the mats must still be upstairs.
When Terry brought all the furniture down all my unfinished projects came down, too. Although Terry didn’t ask, I was kinda embarrassed that there was all this stuff that I had tucked away. I buy stuff. For a project. Almost always on line. By the time it gets here. Well, I’m not interested in that project anymore. Anyone else out there like that?
For instance, Fernie and Fuzzy Fox here. Whenever I use faux fur, the room looks like I killed a rabbit. That stuff is crazy messy. This particular faux fur also makes my face itch and then I progress to coughing. I was planning on making a third fox, which I am calling Furry. I just hate the idea of working with that fur! And then I have to make their clothes. But, I’m going to do it! Fernie, Fuzzy, and Furry are moving up on my priority list!
Another reason I have unfinished projects is because I find things I really need to make and I need them now! Like my walker. I can’t carry anything! On day one, I told Terry I needed a utility belt and he did find one and put it on the walker. But it wasn’t big enough to carry all my necessities. So I made this one a few weeks ago.
I didn’t make a pattern or instructions cause I was just pulling stuff together! The most difficult part of creating a new tote is realizing what you actually need. Because that has to be considered before anything is even cut out. I wanted this bag to hang from the top bar and between the two front legs and I wanted it to be stable–not swinging back and forth while I walked. (The utility belt would swing back and forth and I hated it hitting my legs.) Plus I needed lots of pockets!
I wanted it big enough to carry my laptop. My iPhone. My iPad. My water bottle and a cup. This one is just about perfect.
I planned on putting snaps on the straps on the sides but got lazy and just hand stitched them onto the walker. While I didn’t make a tutorial for this tote, if I have enough people asking for one, I will pull one together.
Then finishing that little project put me in the mood to sew another tote. This one is for a surprise for a friend. Hope she’s not reading this!!!!!
I wanted to make a Handy Tote which is one of my free tutorials. I went to my blog to find it and it isn’t a downloadable PDF. What???? So, that’s the next tutorial I will be updating for my 20/20 vision. I like to make two totes while I’m updating. The first, I follow my instructions and make notes and then the second, I proofread my instructions. Now I’m making the second tote so I should have the PDF done in the next few weeks.
And then I’ll get to all those unfinished projects! Ha!
Please excuse my whining, I have to say that I am very happy that I am healing. After a certain age, growing bone is not quite as easy! I also know that I am very blessed to have Terry and all my friends and family that support me. It’s a hard time for everyone right now.

Wow Terry has been busy! Love the holders for the walker! Something my mom needed. We had sold some at our church craft sale. You could sell some on Etsy or make some for a local nursing home I’m sure. Glad to hear you are getting better by each day. Sending good thoughts and prayers
Terry
I love the walker tote. I might need to make another one just to make it a little easier and jot down the dimensions. It really has come in handy.
