Hexie Quilt & Progress
I am slooooowly healing from the big fall. Every day is a little better. Although I do have times that I’m so sad that I’m stuck like this for another two months and five days and 12 hours. Not that I’m keeping track. Or anything.
Have to say that working on my new Christmas Hexie quilt has kind of saved my mind. Having a broken knee means spending lots of time on my butt watching TV. Hexies are hand stitched so I can just stitch away while I binge on the Crown. My latest Netflix addiction. (Just got through season one and started season two. Terry is hooked, too! So good!)
Okay. Now I have to tell you about my connection on Etsy. I’ve always made my online purchases through either Hawthorne Threads, Fabric.com, or Fat Quarter Shop. Once upon a time it would take about 5 days to get those lovely packets of delicious fabric. But now, since COVID-19, it takes over 3 weeks. Seriously. But. If you go through the independent shops on Etsy, you can get those tokens of love in less than a week. Seriously. I ordered two yards of fabric this morning and it’s already in the mail. Happy. Happy. Happy! It’s a little more expensive because of shipping but it’s worth it. I checked on Fabric.com when I would receive this same purchase and it wouldn’t have even been shipped out until August 12th. What! Life is short! I need that in my hands NOW!
Here’s the fabric I originally ordered for my Hexie Christmas Quilt.
And it’s just as luscious in person as it was online. Art Gallery fabric is so soft and lovely.
I printed a bunch of hexie templates on card stock. Maybe more than a bunch. Maybe a couple of hundred. Or a thousand. Who’s counting?
Also ordered those hexie Plexiglas templates. I wanted clear hexies so I could “fussy cut”. They all had a brown paper product on the back. I was kinda “what the F” only because I have a wee bit of a patience issue at the moment. Terry immediately figured out how to peel that brown layer off. Phew!
A few days before the “incident”, I had decided to move my sewing room into the “grandkids room”. The Tampa kids are all so involved in sports, dance, and gymnastics, that they seldom spend a night. The North Dakota kids come every two years. So, it was time to just turn that room into a full-time sewing spot. I gave the daybed and all the pillows to a friend that has small children. Terry and I moved all the furniture into the new smaller room. I was in the midst of moving the rest of the stuff when I fell.
And now “we” are slowly moving all my “stuff” to the dining room. Who needs a dining room?
Here’s my new sewing corner.
The sewing corner is right by the front door, so this is my view. Not bad!
Terry brought one of my tables downstairs plus my smaller cutting mats so I could have a cutting table.
In reality. In two months and five days and 12 hours will I actually be able to get up those 14 steps to my perfect sewing room?
Getting old sucks.

Glad to hear you are on the mend. Getting old sucks but so does 2020! Just keep on hanging in there! Sending good thoughts and prayers!
Terry, thanks for your thoughts and prayers. I can use them! Yes. 2020 really sucks. Hey we have a hurricane coming! I’m still waiting for the mad hornets. Got your card! Thank you. I do appreciate all of my friends and family that are reaching out to me.
