Roaring 20s for the Tower and a Tote
Almost 6 years ago, I joined the Old Homosassa Heritage Council and became the corresponding secretary/historian/web master/graphic designer. (In a small organization and community, one wears many hats) Our original project was saving the water tower from destruction. Six years of fund raising with t-shirts sales, a scavenger hunt, four galas, and three huge yard sales–the water tower is saved, repaired, lite up, and landscaped. A very small but determined group was able to raise over $65,000 to make that possible.
Our most recent fund raiser was the “Roaring 20’s for the Tower” event held at La Casa of Mason Creek. Without any advertising, we were able to sell out all 125 tickets.
Everyone got their “Gatsby on!” There were lots of gangsters with their molls, flappers, rum-runners, one newsboy and Einstein. Food was GREAT, music was AMAZING, and, of course, La Casa was SPECTACULAR!
I donated this bag full of fun to the auction. (This is my basic shopping tote, if you want to get the tutorial.)
The bag held tequila, corona, margarita mix, margarita salt, margarita glasses, chips & salsa, and aspirin!
Had to include something in the pocket! Since we live in a river front community, I stitched up a mess of fish. I posted a Softie Fish DIY here. For this bunch I just added lace fins.
This was our fourth gala event. The first was “Homosassa goes Hollywood”. After a cocktail hour in the Citrus County Courthouse museum, we took over the restored Valerie Theatre that was right across the street and watched the very old movie “Tradewinds” that was filmed on the Homosassa River. Next we had a Valentine’s Dance “Heart for the Tower” and followed that with “Toga for the Tower” in 2019. All of the events have been wonderful, but this Great Gatsby style party surpassed them all. Wondering how our group will top this one!
