All the Quilts–2019 Edition!
I don’t have any “finishes” yet for 2020 so I thought I’d do a little review of the quilts I made in 2019 with links and my thoughts about creating each quilt. Just in case you are interested in making something similar!
I started out the year with the “Sky Quilt” from Brigette Heitland of Zen Chic. Finished it on January 3rd.
I’ve long admired her quilts. Having said that, I had a lot of trouble with this quilt. I would like to make it again but I keep putting it off–mostly because making 152 flying geese is not fun! And I had trouble getting it squared up. I was really burnt out after this project and I didn’t start another quilt until….
The Peace Quilt Wall Hanging in late February. This was my first wall hanging. I had intended to put it in my office/music room but it just wasn’t big enough. So it’s my sewing room now. I like it there. I still intend to make a wall hanging for my office/music room. Maybe this year. Maybe not.
In July I finally made a wall hanging for Jessica that she had requested at the end of 2018. I loved how the bright happy pieces are set off by the white background. This was a kit from Bluprint called Negative Space by Angela Waters.
The kit came with a Jelly Roll–lots of fabric strips. So many left-over strips, I made a second quilt for the “In-law” suite at my son and daughter-in-law’s house. I call it Negative Space–Upsized cause I made it queen-sized. I had to cut up some fat quarters to get enough strips. I think I’ll make a new matching bedskirt for my next visit!
Then I fell down the rabbit-hole and started to make three Block of the Month Quilts from Jacquelynn Steves. That was in August. I got two finished before the end of the year. (I’m waiting for the backing to arrive for the third and I should be able to post about that one shortly!)
I joined the “Art of Home” club just to get this pattern. This was the first quilt I made of the three.
And I really love this quilt but I will probably not renew my membership for next year. I like to try different clubs every year.
Next up is the Christmas version of the “Happy Little Things” Quilt that I call my “Sweet Little Things” Quilt because the fabric I used has so much candy and sweetness on it you could get cavities by just looking at it!
Also from Jacquelynn Steves but this is a free sew along which doesn’t require any payment. She offers one every year. You just have to sign up for it. I finished it three days before Christmas!
I had a few problems with this one. The strips and other small bits just would not lay straight although I really was extra careful with them. It turned out okay but for the second version I am using starch on all those little pieces. Handmade is never “perfect” but I keep trying to make the quilts better!
And that’s it for 2019. Up next–I have the last “Happy Little Things” quilt just just waiting for the backing to arrive and it will be my first quilt for 2020!
