“Oh Christmas Tree” Quilt
Okay. It’s about time that I started posting about holiday projects. After all, there’s only 82 days left to get stuff done!
Last Christmas.
I made.
FIVE QUILTS!
Christmas Quilts.
As gifts.
I wrote about all of them except the “Oh Christmas Tree” Quilt. (If you click on the following snaps, you’ll go to the post)
I was a little burnt out at that point. I actually finished “Oh, Christmas Tree” on Christmas Day 2017 and delivered it to the kids in Tampa that afternoon.
Phew!
And now I’m finally ready to post how I made this little lovely–just in time for you to make one for Christmas! Yes, you still have PLENTY of time!
I got some “Pinspiration” from a wall hanging on Pinterest.
I used a piece of white with silver dots fabric and cut it 26 1/2″ x 32″. Cut 14 strips of fabric. 2″ wide. The longest strip is 20 1/2″ and the shortest is 5″. The stump is a 4 1/2″ square. The star is 4″. Most of the strips are from Free Spirit “Winter Wonderland” fat quarters and some green printed cotton & steel that had in my stash. I don’t think either are available now. But there’s lots of gorgeous holiday fabrics out there!
Now. Gotta say. I was working on a deadline. But I thought this was too cute to just be a wall hanging. So I thought I’d make it a little bigger and it would be a lap quilt. So added a border of 5 1/2″ wide patches.
But then I thought, wouldn’t this make a great nap quilt with just a little more border? So I added a 3″ border of red Kona cotton on each side and an 8″ border on the top and bottom.
Laid all the strips in a pretty pattern and used Heat n Bond Lite for the appliques.
Did some quilting. Finished it with white binding.
Done!
And my daughter-in-law was delighted when she opened it. She is crazy about Christmas and decorates every tiny spot in her house. And she said “oh, I really need another wall hanging!” (She had a large house last year and has moved into an even bigger place this year–lots of empty walls!)
And I said “no, it’s a nap quilt”!
Ha!

Love it! Thank you for sharing
Thanks Sally! Glad you like the quilt. It was quick and easy to make!
Working on making 5 quilts for Christmas, love the pattern, my question is, did you also sew on the strips that make the tree, or just heat and bond?
Glad you like the Christmas tree quilt. It was fun to make! I did sew the strips on after using Heat ‘n Bond Lite”.
Good luck getting five quilts finished! I love Christmas quilts.
