Finally, a Sewing Machine and Projects
Yes. I have a sewing machine.
Finally.
It’s not the one I ordered. But it’s the one that was delivered–a week after the promised date.
And after pulling all the staples out of the box. And pulling the packing tape off of the straps
And cutting the straps
And then cutting more packing tape.
And pulling more staples.
And struggling with the styrofoam….
It wasn’t the machine I ordered.
But it is the machine I’m keeping.
The Juki TL-18 QVP COL
It is SO PRETTY!
I had looked at the Juki TL- 2010Q back when I bought my Brother PQ-1500SL. I went with the less expensive machine and regretted it after using the Brother for a few months. I didn’t know that there were other models of the Juki TL until one of the commenters here, Trish, said she loves her Juki Haruka which is now the Juki TL-18 QVP. I had to check it out and ordered it.
Haven’t used her very much yet but I’m now ready to start our…..
First project,
A backpack for Terry.
We don’t have a car in DC and we do a lot of walking. Mostly to the grocery store. (Although I have discovered delivery services!) Terry thinks a backpack would be handy. So I said, hey here’s one for $95 but let me spend $200 on supplies and make you one.
Yep. That’s me!
After the backpack is finished, next up is potholders and other stuff for my kitchen. I’m still using my holiday potholders. Yeah, the tree is down but there are still reindeers on the countertop!
This jacket.
Bought it at Sam’s Club with the intention of upscaling it with embroidery and a fun quilt block on the back. That was two years ago.
And maybe two more Sandhill Slings. One for me and one for my daughter-in-law Lauri. I made her one a few years ago and the corners are fraying. Not my stitching! The fabric is canvas from Ruby Star Society and I am disappointed in the quality.
And for slow stitching, I need to fix these little well-loved softies. Surgery must be performed. Poor Fannie the Fox has lost her tail and her eyes are dangling. Blue Jean Baby Queen is also losing her eyes along with a few appendages.
Lucy the quilt is slowly but surely coming along.
Next week, details on the backpack!

BACKPACKS!!! I love my sling and the reason it is slightly fraying is because it gets used and thrown and dragged all over the place.
I hope you’re loving your Juki!
Welcome to the Juki club!
Miss Juki and I are getting along well. We have had to work out a few issues but now all is great! Looking forward to spending more time with her!
