Halloween FPP
FPP — Foundation Paper Piecing. We have a love/hate relationship.
I love it because the finished works are so accurate. It’s a puzzle. It can be fun. And it is a challenge to do it correctly. I usually like a challenge!
I hate it because it is messy. Wastes fabric. Is time-consuming. And it’s a challenge to do it correctly. Sometimes I don’t like a challenge!
A few years ago the Hope pattern from Happy So Lucky.
I planned on making some more eventually but never quite got around to it. Then I saw a FPP ghost pattern on Instagram that was designed by “Happy Sew Lucky” that was a block special for a little surprise on the back of a Halloween Quilt.
And I was making a Halloween quilt but the back would be Minky and I didn’t think that cute block would work there. So I didn’t buy it.
But then…..
She put it on SALE! Actually a lot of her Halloween patterns were on sale. I figured if I was getting the “Peek-a Boo” block, I might as well get them all! You can see all of her patterns here.
It took me THREE full sewing sessions to finish this piece. (my sewing sessions are usually about 2 hours.)
Then I tried to make the smallest spider from the Creepy Spider quilt block. Total FAILURE. It was so small, I kept messing it up. I attempted THREE different times before I gave up and moved on to the larger 12″ spider. Success.
And I think he is VERY SCARY!
Then I turned to the little ghost from the quilt pattern “HSL tinies: Halloween”. I enlarged it a bit when I printed it out. That made it a wee bit easier.
He is so cute!
I added the boo from the “Peek-a-Boo” block.
Little Ghost. Big Boo. I have plans for this block!
And then I realized I made a mistake on the Peek a Boo block. Seems I forgot to add a piece to the B!
Whoops! And no, I’m not taking it apart. It would be easier to make it all over again. (Which I am not doing!)
Anyhow….
I made all of these blocks.
I will be tucking the spider and the Peek-a-Boo blocks away for next year. Because I have one more Halloween project to finish and then I need to move on. Time to get some home decor finished that I started working on months ago!
