Sewing Space Update
And just in case you were wondering how it’s going, here’s an update!
Just a reminder of what it looked like when we moved here in May….
Kind of dark and dreary. (Although I understand my son painted it black and red for the Tampa Bay Bucs! My team but I don’t want to live in those colors!)
I wouldn’t even come into this side of the shop last year. The garage door leaked so whenever it rained, there was a puddle in the middle of the floor. It was ugly, dark, and damp.
(Might have been mice. Never saw them or heard them but that might have been because I never went in there!)
But now it’s all light and bright. (I have seen no mice! But I’m always watching!)
Such a difference!
French doors were added first. Plus a seal to the overhead garage door to stop the rain from seeping under it–we still plan to add a gasket along the edge of the entryway for an additional blockage.
I painted the pegboard, window frame, and cupboards a lovely soft blue.
While I’ll probably change my mind about where stuff goes, this would be a good place for the Cricut.
A design wall will go to the right of the doors. I have the material to fill that gap over the doors, just waiting for my son to install it.
Shelving that I removed from one of the bedrooms will go in this corner.
The fitness equipment will go into the other side of the shop. There is LOTS of room in there.
My spider plant had to move here because Athena kept chewing on it when it was in the living room. Then throwing up. Cats! (It’s not supposed to be toxic to pets.)
I still have to paint the trim around the top of the room and stain the wood around the doors.
I’ll also be replacing the fluorescent lighting in the space. They are just fixtures plugged into outlets in the ceiling! Once upon a time, there was a manufacturing business in the entire 3-bay shop and there are many of these lights hanging throughout. (Next year I’ll start rehabing the other side the shop!)
The floors are a problem. We’ve considered several solutions but haven’t decided what we will do yet. I’ll clean the floors the best I can and then get some prices for coverings. I have been doing lots of research!
So, that’s my update. Still have a LOT of work before I can move in. Meanwhile, sewing in the dining room is fine for now.
Love your new sewing space. It will be “sew” much fun to design in. I have a much smaller sewing room, so my flooring idea may be too costly. It is a cork lined faux wood look (which I chose gray) that was laid on concrete. Recommended for areas that might have moisture problems as well as a cushioning for the concrete. It’s easy to clean as well. My only complaint is that I lose pins. Have to use a magnet wand to find them. It is Novocore ~ https://www.novocorefloor.com/. You may have already looked into this, but thought I’d pass it along as you’ve been so helpful to me
Of course you chose gray! I would too! I have not checked out Novocore yet but will!
