Back to the sewing room!
I have a new sewing machine. Yippee. And I pulled out the Christmas Quilt that I brought with me to finish. It’s been packed away for over two years. I based it on a quilt pattern that I purchased from Zen Chic—Sky. I made the quilt once and followed the instructions exactly. This time I enlarged the blocks plus did a slightly different layout.
All the fabric is from Free Spirit. It’s very soft and pretty. I called it a Christmas quilt but there really isn’t much about it regarding Christmas. There are some poinsettias and a few sytlized deer, but I think I can leave this throw out all winter.
Then I started overthinking about my sewing room. Did I really want to turn the dining room into a sewing room? It’s open to the kitchen which is the most used room in any house I have lived in. And my creativity quite often turns into a hot mess. Do I want to look at my sewing projects strewn over the room every day?
Plus I had no storage in the dining room. I wasn’t ready to buy new furniture for storage or leave my fabric and supplies lying about.
After considering many other spaces in the house, I choose to move into my granddaughter Piper’s former bedroom. It’s a great size, 13 x 14 feet. Has lots of storage with shelves and a large closet. Plus a nice big blank wall to hang my quilts in progress.
A couple problems. First, it’s carpeted. I’ll probably take care of that next summer. And second, it’s very PINK! With glitter!
But for now I’m going to get my “Barbie” on and love the color. Maybe add some pink accessories. It’s giving me some pink inspiration!
I tacked up some batting for a design wall and that Christmas quilt went up.
I started this project two years ago and it’s been stored away since then. Based on the Sky Quilt by Zen Chic, I changed the block sizes and rearranged it a bit. Unfortunately I left myself NO notes as to what size it should end up! Grrrr! I usually am a little better than that!
I’m currently cutting 5 1/2” strips to match the width of the flying geese—hoping I have enough of the solid fabric I purchased over two years ago!
Hope to get it all put together this week! Easy Peasy!
