Perfect Picnic Quilt Progress
This really is an easy peasy quilt. I should have finished it a couple weeks ago but other stuff keeps getting in the way. My time in the sewing room has been limited and it doesn’t help that Athena needs to help me. She is getting better about listening and she isn’t using me for her scratching post anymore but she still wants to play, play, play. (She’s so cute, I can’t resist and I must play with her!)
I wanted all the fabric for this quilt to be from Ruby Star Society and did some searching on Etsy for the perfect backing. I also needed to order some Rifle Paper Company fabric that is out of print for a custom Sandhill Sling order. I found a shop with both in stock–Pearls and Clovers Quilt Shop. I have never had a bad experience with Etsy.
This is “Spark” by Melody Miller for Ruby Star Society. I love all things “star” so I’m very happy with this one. The dark blue has these very cool little stars that are almost a rose gold. Which is perfect for this quilt with all the pinks in it.
I thought the backing looked really great with this pink fabric with the gold letters. I’ve already used it in the quilt and considered using it for the binding.
But instead I went with a blue that I’ve also used in this quilt. And pink thread for the quilting. I usually use white but stepped outside the box for this project!
Basting is my least favorite in the many steps of quilting. I have been “wall basting” my quilts in my garage. It requires a lot of up and down on the step ladder while I readjust the layers and that ends up being a killer on the knees. So this time I decided to try table basting. I did this once before and it was a nightmare. This time I took it slow and easy. I have AC in my garage now which sure made a HUGE difference. I didn’t think of taking any photos. While it took a lot longer than wall basting I think if I continue trying it I’ll get better at it and it won’t take so long. Perfect Practice makes Perfect! Guess I need to make some more quilts. Right?
For my next quilty post, the Perfect Picnic Quilt will be finished and I’ll have some glamour shots. Looking forward to the finish!
