July Wrap Up
It’s August 2nd! A few days late for my July wrap up. But here it is…..
READS IN JULY
I started writing monthly about the books I read to hold me to actually reading books. I have a stack of books on my bookcase that have not yet been read and I thought that’s where I’d start in July. But there’s a reason that I haven’t read them yet. Just can’t get into them! Started one. Not crazy about it. Going to keep trying to get involved. Maybe that will be one of the books in August! Failure on my goals for 2022.
But I did watch all four seasons of “The Housemaids Tale”. My review? Loved the first two seasons. The third and fourth were a little slow. But I stuck with it. The ending was kinda weird. But also kinda justified. Anyone else watch the series and have an opinion? I did think all the actors were amazing.
MAKES IN JULY
I made another valiant attempt at stitching up my own clothes. Bought a really cool pattern I saw on Instagram from SewLiberated.com.
Made it in fabric I already had just to test the pattern. I liked it but thought it was a little too big so I made it in one size smaller with fabric I ordered online just for that pattern. The final version was very sad. Didn’t fit right. Plus the fabric just didn’t work–the perils of ordering online! I was really sad that I spent the money and time on it. But I’m not giving up. One. More. Try.
Also, that white t-shirt I made back in May with the goofy neck line? I decided to “fix” it. Cut the neckline out. Serged a new facing in. Still wonky. Cut that one out. Tried again. That attempt was weird but wearable. I probably need to watch some YouTube videos to learn how to finish necklines!
I made a shark this month. Athena totally approved!
I planned to finish my Christmas quilt this month. After all, it’s “Christmas in July”. Failure. It’s still sitting in the closet. Maybe it will stay there until I start my annual panic holiday stitching! But I am almost finished with my “Perfect Picnic Quilt” from Ruby Star Society!
Bought this fabric at our local quilt shop, Beyond the Stitches. They are getting out of “garment fabric” and concentrating on quilt fabric. 70% OFF! Yikes! The one on the left is rayon, the other two are jersey knit. I’ve never sewn with rayon but am looking forward to trying it out.
Also bought this canvas fabric from Rifle Paper Company on Etsy. It is no longer being made and I was delighted to find it.
I was at my semi-annual eye checkup and the tech saw my Sandhill Sling and now I’m making her one. Not sure when I’ll get that project started!
AND WHAT ELSE WAS I DOING IN JULY?
Selling shirts for the Homosassa River Restoration Project in the 90 + degree heat and humidity of Florida afternoons. I helped design this one. We’ve made close to $20,000–not from selling shirts. We had silent and live auctions along with lots of raffles. The goal is $60,000.
And trying to keep the weeds under control in my yard. (it’s also hot and humid there–I can only last about an hour, Phew! The weeds are definitely winning!)
And one last photo of Athena because she is just so photogenic!
Onward to August!
