Cat Bed DIY
New Baby. New Kitten.
Baby got a handmade quilt. Kitten needed something hadnmade, too!
How about a Cat Bed? I found a pattern on Pinterest that I thought was interesting. It’s a YouTube video. The video is really good and easy to follow. I made mine 24″ and in the video it is 23″. I guess I wrote the wrong size down. Duh! But it doesn’t matter. You could make it any size, really. Giant for a dog, wee for a mouse. There are lots of videos out there that you can check out.
Here’s how I made mine!
I used pieces of minky that I had left from quilt backs and stuffed animals. I just serged two pieces together to get a big enough size.
I made a 24″ circle from packing paper that I taped together. Then I used the pattern to cut two layers of the minky fabric that I had pieced together and put the right sides together. Stitched around the outside, leaving a fist size hole for stuffing. Turned it right side out and marked a second circle–5″ from the outer edge. Stitched, leaving a fist size hole for stuffing in the same area that was left open on the outer circle.
Then stuffed the inside piece. Just enough to have a soft cushy center. Stitched the inner circle’s opening closed with the sewing machine.
Stuffed the outer ring firmly and handstitched the opening closed.
That’s it!
It was so easy that I made a second bed.
Here’s the first one. I think I overstuffed it. It’s a bit wonky.
Kitten doesn’t mind the wonkiness!
I made a second bed for my office/sewing room. Because sometimes Athena likes to help me type on the computer.
I didn’t cram quite as much stuffing in the outer ring on this one.
You can flip it over and use the other side, too.
Easy Peasy and I used up a bunch of minky I had in my stash! And Athena loves them! Win! Win!
