2019 Christmas Mystery Sew Along
I’m working on three quilts right now and designing a new pattern for a cross body tote. Sounds like a lot to me but now that I’m following a few quilting Facebook pages and several sewing blogs, I realize that I am an underachiever! These people really produce a lot of stuff!
Anyhow. Today I’m sharing my progress on the Christmas quilt which was the reason I paid to join the “Art of Home” Club. I just wanted this pattern!
I started it back in July. The first row was all embroidery. That took FOREVER!
I have to say that my embroidery skills have definitely improved. This is the first block that I embroidered for the Splendid Sampler a couple of years ago. All of the eyes were French Knots and all six eyes ended up wonky. I think I machine appliqued the blanket stitch around the quilt because I was so frustrated. But now I have mad embroidery skills! I even had one of the members of the Sew Cool! Workshop ask me to do the French Knots for the eyes on a tiny doll she was making.
So here are all the little holiday hearts lined up in a row. (A crooked row)
The next row that I was supposed to do was with raw edge applique. But my printer broke. I couldn’t print out the pattern in order to trace the shapes. So I moved onto Row 3.
Which was itty bitty pieces of red and white fabric. 108 itty bitty pieces to be exact.
Which turned into 54….
And then three….
And finally one!
Typically this tiny piece work would make me a tiny bit crazy. Not so this time. It was actually relaxing. Better than watching Hurricane Dorian creep up on Florida! Fortunately for me (this time) I live on the Gulf Coast side of the state and Dorian was out to get the Atlantic side.
Two rows done!
Very Christmasy!
